Gobnait was a young woman when she was told by an angel to search for a place where she would see nine white deer. She left Inis Oirr, came to Dun Chaoin in Kerry and thereafter travelled to various locations, where she left a legacy of Faith that has survived to this day. She travelled hundreds of miles over a number of years before she found "the place of her resurrection" in Bhaile Mhuirne, where nine white deer were grazing on the east facing slope of Gort Na Tiobratan. She settled there, had her monastery there, and has been venerated there for one thousand five hundred years. Her epic journey (aistear) is a heroic example of unfailing faith and deep trust in God and a firm resolve to live a life of service in holiness and peace.
